Volume III Title 1: Ocarina of Time

In the days when Hylians were the leading race, many people of many species aggressively searched for the wish-granting Triforce, but no one, except Hyrules Royal Family, was sure of its location (and they knew the Triforce was to be left in its hiding place until a person worth of it would appear); the knowledge had been lost over time. Some said the Triforce lay under the desert, others said it was in the cemetery in the shadow of Death Mountain, but no one ever found it. That yearning for the Triforce soon turned to lust of power, which in turn led to the spilling of blood. Soon the only motive left among those searching for the Triforce was pure greed and in a short time the many races (Hylians, Gerudos, Gorons and Zoras all of Hyrule except the Kokiri) entered war, one against the others.

The war took an heavy toll upon the Sheikahs, a Hylian tribe with the genetic mark of red eyes known for being the "Hylian Shadows" that protected the Royal Family. They were among the most powerful magicians and warriors of all Hyrule, therefore feared by the other races (and as everyone knows, fear can easily turn into hate). Evidently, the Hylian army could not come to their aid, and in the end they became almost extinct; their very own town, Kakariko, repopulated mostly by common Hylians.

But at long last, after many years of conflict, the king of Hyrule managed in pacify all of the peoples. However, a new terrible menace was to strike the proved land...

In the vast, deep forest of Hyrule, the great Deku Tree served as the guardian spirit. The children of the forest, the Kokiri, lived with the great Deku Tree.

Each Kokiri had his or her own guardian fairy, except one. His name was Link.

Early one morning, Link was having a nightmare. It was the same nightmare he had every night: During a storm, Link would find himself standing in front of a mysterious castle. A rider on horseback, carrying a girl, would race by. The girl would look at Link as if to say something. Then, another rider would appear. This big man clad in black would look down menacingly at Link.

Link then would awaken.

As Link opened his eyes, he saw a fairy floating in front of him. This fairys name was Navi. Navi was sent to summon Link to the great Deku Tree.

Exiting from his tree-house Link met his best friend Saria who congratulated Link for his new fairy and the honor of talking to the Deku Tree.

At the entrance of the Deku Trees meadow, though, he met Mido, the so-called (only by himself) leader of the Kokiri, who forced Link to bring a sword and a shield. And so, guided by Navi, Link exploring the surroundings and found the Kokiri Sword, one of the two treasures of the Kokiri; then he went to purchase a shield.

The Deku Tree greeted Link and told him that the climate of evil descended on the land, causing nightmares to those sensitive to it. Then he asked Link to dispel, with his wisdom and courage, a curse that was cast on him. And thus Link entered the tree.

Inside was a true dungeon infested by plants and spiders acting as parasites, and at the end Link found the origin of the infestation the Queen Gohma, which Link managed to destroy, dispelling the curse.

The Deku Tree told Link that the wicked man from the desert who cast the curse was currently searching for the Sacred Realm and the divine relic the Triforce. He then entrusted Link with the great treasure of the Kokiri, the spiritual stone of the forest, the Kokiris Emerald and told him to stop the evil man and to depart for Hyrule Castle where he should meet the Princess of Destiny. Unfortunately Link was summoned by the Deku Tree too late, and the ancient guardian died. Mido accused Link of this which probably made Link's decision to leave the forest easier. On the way to the castle, Link met the owl Kaepora Gaebora, who was said to be the reincarnation of an ancient sage and would help the lad in his quest; he warned Link to avoid the castle guards, and so he did, reaching princess Zelda and finding she was the girl in his dream.

She told Link of her own dream, in which dark clouds billowing over Hyrule were part by a ray of light from the forest that turned into a figure holding a green and shiny stone followed by a fairy. Then, recognizing him as that figure, she told him the Secret of the Sacred Realm handed down the Royal Family of Hyrule...:

The three goddesses hid the Triforce containing the power of the gods somewhere in Hyrule...

The power to grant the wish of the one who holds the Triforce in his hands.

If someone with a righteous heart makes a wish it will lead Hyrule to a golden age of prosperity...

If someone with an evil mind has his wish granted the world will be consumed by evil... That is what has been told...

So, the ancient Sages built the Temple of Time to protect the Triforce from evil ones.

But to open the Door of Time, which seals the entrance, the three spiritual stones were needed as well as the treasure kept by the royal family togehter with the secret of the realm: the Ocarina of Time. The two of them spied Ganondorf, king of the desert thieves, the Gerudo, as he swore allegiance to the King of Hyrule; knowing in their hearts he truly intended to obtain the Triforce and conquer the world. Because the King didnt believe in Zeldas dream, they decided to claim the Triforce before Ganondorf and use it to defeat him. Zeldas attendant, Impa of the Sheikahs, escorted Link out of the castle and taught him Zeldas Lullaby, a magical song that would prove to be invaluable during Links journey.

He went to Death Mountain and learned that the Gorons keepers of spiritual stone of fire were starving as Dodongo's cave, from which they used to get food (actually a kind of rocks), was again occupied by dodongos (who had disappeared long in the past), which was all Ganondorf's doing. Link had to free the cave from the dodongos in order to obtain the Gorons Ruby from Darunia, leader of the Gorons, but he did it with relative ease.

Next he went to Zoras Domain, to find out that princess Ruto had been swallowed by the Zoras guardian deity, Lord Jabu Jabu. Link too went in and rescuing Ruto he had to defeat the monstrous Barinade, who was trying to kill Jabu Jabu from inside him; this way he obtained the Zoras Sapphire.

With the stones gathered Link was returning to Hyrule Castle but just in front of the outer wall his nightmare came true: Zelda and Impa were riding away, escaping. Unlike the dream Zelda threw the Ocarina of Time to Link before disappearing in the distance. Ganondorf then came out of the castle.

He asked Link where Zelda had gone and seeing as Link had drawn his sword in reply, he shot a dark sphere of magic to the lad and fled to search the princess. Link recovered the Ocarina and hurried to the Temple of Time after Zelda taught him the Song of Time by telepathy.

Playing the song in front of the altar made the Spiritual Stones fly in their destined places and the Door of Time disappear. As Link entered the next chamber he saw a pedestal with a sword: it was the sword of evils bane the Master Sword. This blade had been forged by the Hylian Sages who built the temple, upon receiving a divine oracle from the Gods. The Triforce could bring catastrophe in the wrong hands, so this sword resilent to magic which could repulse even powers granted by the Triforce was crafted with the blessing of the Gods. It was a sword that only one with a true hero's value could draw. Link pulled out the Master Sword and was engulfed in a pillar of blue light, quickly turning to white.

But just before losing consciousness, he heard Ganondorf's laughter. Triumphant, the Gerudo thanked Link for removing the sword he could not take and that was blocking his path to the Triforce.

When Link opened his eyes, he found himself in a strange place that looked like it was made of flowing water, it was the Chamber of Sages, in the Temple of Light situated in the very center of the Sacred Realm. In front of Link was standing an old man, he was Rauru the Sage of Light, one of the ancient Hylians who built the temple. The elder told Link that he was able to pull the Master Sword from the Pedestal of Time since the blade itself had chosen him as the Hero of Time. But he was too young to use it against Ganondorf, so the Master Sword sealed Link in the Temple of Light for seven years.

During this time, using the power of the Triforce he had stolen from the Temple of Light, Ganondorf conquered Hyrule becoming the King of Evil... His evil power radiated from the temples of Hyrule and transformed it into a world of monsters. Link's destiny was to awaken the other Sages, allowing their Seal to contain all the evil power in the void of the Realm, because as the Hero of Time chosen by the Master Sword he had the power to fight with the might of the Sages; and saying this Rauru gave him the Light Medallion, adding his power to Links own.

Back in the Temple Of Time Link found a mysterious young Sheikah named Sheik,

who told Link a Legend of the Temples handed down by his tribe:

When evil rules all, an awakening voice from the Sacred Realm will call those destined to be Sages, who dwell in the five temples...

One in a deep forest...

One on a high mountain...

One under a vast lake...

One within the house of the dead...

One inside a goddess of the sand

Together with the Hero of Time, the awakened ones will bind the evil and return the light of peace to the world...

He explained Link they couldnt hear the awakening call because of the evil powers in the temples and directed him to the forest temple. As a fact, during this new quest Sheik would always show up to help Link reach the temples.

After the Deku Trees death the Kokiri village had been invaded by monsters. Link's childhood friends were still all children and didnt recognize him. He went ahead into the temple and defeated Ganondorfs Phantom setting Saria the Sage of Forest free so she could add her power to Link through her medallion as all the Sages would.

Destroying the evil powers source also allowed the Deku Sprout to grow and protect the Kokiri village from monsters; he told Link the Kokiri never get older and that he was not a Kokiri but an Hylian, the son of a young woman who, during the war of all races, had taken refuge in the forest but passing away for her wounds entrusted Link to the Deku Tree. Sheik informed then Link that to return to his original time, he just had to return the Master Sword to the Pedestal of Time, which would prove to be necessary during Links journey.

On his travels, he stopped at the Lon Lon Ranch, a place he had visited 7 years ago where a girl named Malon lived with her father Talon and his assistant Ingo, but things had changed: Ingo was given control of the ranch by Ganondorf and while he sent Talon on his way he kept Malon as an assistant. Link felt like riding and playing the song Malon had thaught him years ago tamed Epona the faster horse of the ranch. Seeing the youth's skills Ingo challenged him to a race and lost twice after betting the horse, Epona, the one he was going to offer to Ganondorf. The shock was so great that Ingo started acting like an assistant again, so Talon could come back making everything normal again.

Link went to Death Mountain where most of the Gorons had been kidnapped by Ganondorf as a warning to any race that would oppose him and to feed the dragon he awakened,

Volvagia who would then burn all Hyrule but the Hero saved the Gorons and defeated him in the Fire Temple; revealing Darunia, as the Sage of Fire. Next Link headed to lake Hylia and the Water Temple, after he learned that Zora's domain inhabitants were put under ice by a monster called Morpha; upon defeating it Link received the power of Ruto Sage of Water, who had been freed from her frozen prison by Sheik, and this allowed the ice in Zoras domain to slowly melt. Link was about to go in the desert but as he passed by Kakariko, Impas village, he found it was burning and Sheik was there, looking at the well. They unsuccessfully fought together the evil shadow spirit that was sealed in the well by Impa and that, with the evil climate, got too strong and broke free. Impa was waiting in the Shadow Temple, where is gathered Hyrules bloody history of greed and hatred, to seal him again but she was not strong enough this time; luckily Link helped her and she awakened as the Sage of Shadow. Link then finally headed off to the desert, there he obtained the respect of the Gerudos and as a young boy he met Nabooru, the lone wolf Gerudo thief, in the Spirit Temple also known as the Desert Colossus. She wanted to steal Ganondorf treasure since he and his minions were using the temple as an hideout but was captured by Koume and Kotake the surrogated mothers of Ganondorf. As an adult Link succeeded in defeating the two witches and rescued Nabooru who was brainwashed and forced to guide Ganondorfs people and she turned out to be the Sage of Spirit.

All the Sages awake, Link returned to the Temple of Time and found Sheik who wanted to tell him another unknown legend of the Triforce passed down by the Sheikahs...

If you would seek the sacred triangle, listen well...

The resting place of the sacred triangle, the Sacred Realm, is a mirror that reflects what is in the heart...

the heart of the one who enters it and claims the sacred triangle... If an evil heart, the Realm will become full of evil; if pure, the Realm will become a paradise.

The Triforce... the sacred triangle... it is a balance that weighs the three forces: Power, Wisdom and Courage.

If the heart of the one who holds the sacred triangle has all three forces in balance, that one will gain the True Force to govern all.

But, if that ones heart is not in balance, the Triforce will separate into three parts: Power, Wisdom and Courage.

Only one part will remain for the one who touched the Triforce... the part representing the force that one most believes in.

If that one seeks the True Force, that one must acquire the two lost parts.

Those two parts will be held within others chosen by destiny, who will bear the Triforce mark on the backs of their hands.

And that was what happened: Ganondorf was only able to get the Triforce of Power. Being the King of Evil didnt satisfy him and to gain complete mastery of the world he began looking those chosen by destiny. The Temperer of Courage was Link himself and the Administrator of Wisdom was the seventh Sage, destined to be the leader of them all: Sheik, who revealed to be Zelda disguised to hide from the evil king.

As the Seventh Sage, their leader, she would seal the door opened by the other Sages and Link would have to protect her. For this Zelda gave him a weapon that could penetrate the Evil Kings defenses... The power given to the chosen ones... The sacred Arrow of Light. But all of a sudden Zelda was trapped in a crystal and Ganondorfs voice echoed in the hall. He had allowed Link to continue on his quest knowing Zelda would reappear, but he underestimated him not knowing he was the Temperer of Courage. Zelda was taken away and Link hurried to Ganons Tower, where Hyrules Castle once was, to save her. The Sages made a rainbow bridge for him and inside Link had to dispel a barrier made of all the magic elements of the six Sages before he could reach Ganondorf. Once there the Triforce parts started to resonate and the marks appeared on the right hands of the three. There were few words and Link and Ganondorf begun their deadly duel.

Reflecting his evil magic against him with the Master Sword, Link was able to get Ganondorfs guard down, stun him with the Arrows of Light and slash at his body with the mythical blade. This way after a long battle the King of Evil was defeated but still with his last breath he tried to kill Link and Zelda by making the tower collapse. They got out in time, rejoicing for the victory when a large ring of fire imprisoned Link and the evil king emerged from the ruins. He used the power of the Triforce to turn into what was inside his heart: a huge demon resembling a wild boar; he was no longer Ganondorf, he was Ganon.

The demon attacked Link with his swords making the Master Sword fly over the ring of fire; Link fought the best he could, yet barely stunning Ganon by hitting him on the tail. But when the monster was on the ground, and the flames were no more, Link got back the Master Sword. Ganon was now on guard making it impossible to reach his tail, therefore Link stun him again with the Arrows of Light and then hit him with the Sword of evils bane.

It didnt last long. Ganon collapsed to the ground and Zelda used her power to hold him down while Link delivered the final blow. Even so, they were not able to kill the demon, they did not have the necessary weapon. But he was weakened, so the Seven Sages opened the sealed door and trapped the evil incarnation of darkness in the void of the Evil Realm that had once been the Sacred Realm. Ganons last words were a promise of revenge on the descendants of the Sages and Link once the seal would be broken. He still had the Triforce of Power with him...

Zelda then told Link he had to let the Master Sword rest and the Door of Time close. Thus, after one last good bye, with the Ocarina of Time she returned Link to before he had pulled out the Master Sword and before he had met her in the first place. Meanwhile, all of Hyrule rejoyced for the fall of the evil tyrant.

To send Link back to before he first took the Master Sword, meant to change the past as at that time Link was supposed to be on his way for Hyrule Castle; he was still to enter the Temple of Time where he found himself appearing. Link was then granted the chance to live a youth free of his destiny's burden. As he appeared in front of the Master Sword, Link watched Navi depart; her duty completed, she bid him farewell and flew out of the window. He then left the temple and went to once again meet a young princess who was spying through a window, to see if her dreams were coming true. He had many things to tell her, the Temperer's mark on his hand proof of his words, and this time they'd make sure no one would open the door of time.
